Duke of Edinburgh

In April, twenty-one Year 10 students set off early Saturday morning by train to complete their first Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

Luckily, they all managed to negotiate Sheffield station with their huge backpacks and arrived on time at Hope Station. After I had checked their equipment and that they knew where they were going, the students eagerly set off, determined to finish their 9-mile walk as quickly as possible and set up camp for the night.

The students all managed the walk without getting lost and enjoyed their time in the beautiful countryside. They arrived in Castleton in the early evening and worked together to set up their tents, cook burgers, pasta and rice, and explore the campsite. As the sun set, the students quietly talked in a group and enjoyed being outside.

The next day, they were very tired but still cleaned up the campsite before setting off at speed to finish the final part of the walk. All the students looked incredibly happy when they had finished. They were really proud of themselves, as well they should be!
